How to play Murder Mystery 2

1. Join a server and wait out the round in progress. Roles are dealt at random, so most rounds you will be Innocent.
2. As Innocent, stay within sight of other players, keep moving, and pick up the coins scattered around the map.
3. As Sheriff, hold your shot. A wrong one removes you and an Innocent, and hands the round to the Murderer.
4. As Murderer, take the players who wander off alone and behave like everyone else in between.
5. Spend coins on crates back in the lobby. Crates are the only free route into the weapon economy.
6. Open the trade window to swap items, put both sides in, and read the offer before confirming it.

What separates a good MM2 round from a lucky one

Watch the coins

Everyone in the round is running the same coin route. A player who ignores coins entirely and shadows other people is usually the one holding the knife.

The gun drops

When the Sheriff dies the gun stays where they fell. An Innocent who picks it up becomes the Hero and can still end the round, so a dead Sheriff is not the end of it.

Stay in sight, not in a pack

A crowd feels safe and is the easiest place for a Murderer to work, because nobody can tell who swung. Keep other players in view from a distance instead.

A round played for coins is never wasted

Coins are the only free way into crates and crates are the only free way into the item economy. Dying early costs the round, not the run.

Demand moves faster than value

How easily an item actually trades and the number printed beside it are two different things, and the first changes first. Read the demand and trend columns before the figure.

Chromas price separately

A chroma is not a better grade of the same godly for pricing purposes. It is its own item on its own scale, and quoting one against the other is how offers go wrong.

Mistakes that cost new MM2 players

• Shooting on suspicion as Sheriff. Getting it wrong removes the only armed Innocent and the person you shot, and the Murderer wins the round from there.
• Breaking away from everyone to grab one last coin. A player alone in a corner is the easiest target on the map and nobody sees what happened.
• Sending items first. The trade window exists so that nobody has to trust anybody, and every request to hand items over outside it is the same old scam wearing a new name.
• Accepting a middleman nobody vouched for. There is no escrow in Murder Mystery 2, so a trusted third party is a stranger holding your inventory.
• Trading against a screenshot from a video. Values move with dupes, events and supply, and an old number is the most common reason a trade a player thought was fair was not.

Hard to trade. The item rarely moves, whatever number the list gives it.

Not looking for. Items the trader does not want offered.

LF

Looking for. The items a trader wants in return.

OP

Overpay. Offering more than list value, usually because the other item is high demand.

Seer

The godly knife MM2 traders historically priced everything against. Values are still quoted on that scale.

Chroma

A rainbow, animated version of a godly. Chromas are separate items and trade well above the plain weapon.

Godly

The top obtainable tier and the backbone of MM2 trading. Most serious trades are godly for godly.

Dupe

A duplicated item. When dupes spread, that item's value drops fast.

Trade-up

Trading several lower items for one better one, the community's ladder from commons to a first godly. Salvaging and crafting is the in-game version.
